This chocolate cake with a kick of cinnamon is moist, fluffy, mild and delicious. It is a quintessential delight. Chocolate and Cinnamon – a match made in heaven. Have it plain without guilt, dust it with icing sugar or even with your favourite frosting.

1/2 cup butter
1 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
5 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract


Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease a large bundt pan with cooking spray.

Put butter, water, oil, and cocoa in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil.

Meanwhile, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl.

Pour the chocolate mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and mix well.

Then, add the buttermilk and baking soda.

Mix together the eggs, cinnamon, and vanilla in a small bowl, and add to the batter.

Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 25 minutes. Allow cake to cool completely in the pan. Then, turn onto a plate, and sprinkle with powdered sugar

The baker’s notes
I used a 8” heart shaped baking pan, preheated 180 degrees C
I mixed cinnamon with dry ingredients
Use good quality cocoa powder
The oven temperature varies.
Do not open oven door. Check the cake after 30 mins.
Mine took 40mins.
It has a runny batter
Let the cake cool completely before frosting
I frosted the cake with homemade nutella.

For all the nutella lovers out there, this frosting is so delicious that you cannot resist. It is incredibly easy and simple to prepare.


1 cup nutella (homemade/store-bought)
1 cup powdered sugar
½ softened unsalted butter
¼ salt


Take a bowl. Add butter. Give a whisk. Into this, add powdered sugar. Whisk till smooth. Add nutella and salt. Whisk till everything combined. Spread on cooled cake.

The baker’s notes
can add little milk if required.
